Cerritos College

teacher trac logoEstablished in 1999, the Teacher TRAC Program strives to recruit, develop and prepare diverse, high quality TK-12 and community college teachers to meet local and state needs. The Teacher TRAC Program has 3 pathways: Elementary, Secondary and CTE. Although the majority of our students are in the 18-24 year old range, the program includes re-entry students especially in our CTE Teacher Pathway. These students have or are currently working in their CTE career sector and are returning to be in the teacher pathway. The Teacher TRAC program faculty strive to keep current with content, credential changes, teaching standards, pedagogy, and technology promoting relevancy. Our clear, relevant curriculum pathways guide students in obtaining their certificates and degrees and transferring. Our extensive support services nurture our students to become responsible for their own learning. While the Teacher TRAC Program is under Academic Affairs, in-depth collaboration with Student Services especially Counseling Services, Admissions, Financial Aid and EOPS are vital to our student’s success. The Teacher TRAC Program interfaces with all divisions and our focus on CTE industrial technology, math/science, special education, and foundations in early learning depends on in-depth collaboration with the Counseling, SEM, Social Science Humanities, Technology and Health Occupation divisions.

For students interested in becoming an elementary school teacher, Teacher TRAC’s flagship program is a partnership with California State University Long Beach. Students in the integrated, standards based Teacher TRAC / CSULB program, can earn their Bachelor’s degree and multiple subject teaching credential, and complete their student teaching. Official Teacher TRAC students receive benefits such as admission to CSULB (upon completion of the lower division general education and pre-major requirements).

We offer a 6 week Summer STEM academy for incoming freshmen. The academy includes a 6 week Earth Science class and internship where in teams of two, 30 incoming Teacher TRAC students lead workshops for over 200 middle school students. Teacher TRAC also includes an AA-T in Elementary Teacher Education, counseling appointments, fieldwork and internships, workshops, conferences, scholarships and job information.
